Water is essential to the survival of all living things and is limited in supply. Although the Earth might seem to have an abundance of water, less than 1 percent is actually available for human use. The rest is either salt water, fresh water frozen in the polar ice caps, or simply too unattainable. Therefore, at Exquisite Designs we sell products with the WaterSense label – products that save water without sacrificing performance or quality. These products follow testing and certification protocols to make sure they meet the EPA criteria for water efficiency and performance. These products not only help to save the environment, but also money and energy.
A high efficiency toilet (HET) carrying the WaterSense label goes beyond the standard 1.6 gpf and uses 1.28 gpf, a 20% water savings. Switching to an HET could save you 4,000 gallons and about $170 per year. If every household in the U.S. replaced just one old toilet with a new HET, we would save almost 1 trillion gallons of water (that’s more than 2 weeks of water flowing over Niagara Falls!) and as much as $6 billion dollars in one year.
Not only do WaterSense labeled products save money, but also energy. It takes a significant amount of energy to deliver and treat the water you use every day, resulting in tons of greenhouse gas emissions. For example, letting your faucet run for five minutes uses about as much energy as letting a 60-watt light bulb run for 14 hours. By using water efficient plumbing fixtures you not only reduce the energy required to supply and treat water, but also help address climate change.
Water is not the only natural resource that we need to consider preserving. At Exquisite Designs, we sell bath furniture made with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) – certified wood that is finished with low VOC (Volatile Organic Chemical) and low-HAP (Hazardous Airs Pollutants) protective coatings. We sell soaking tubs, air baths, whirlpools, and shower bases made from post-industrial recycled material as well as organic products.
Exquisite Designs wants to help you make your home a “greener” place to live so come by our showroom to learn more about how you can save money while saving the environment!
